Councilor Kevin Hamilton, who represents Risedale on Cumbria County Council, spent yesterday afternoon in the shoes of a school crosser, as part of National Road Safety Week.
Cllr Hamilton helped lollipop man Steve Scrogham in Schneider Road, Barrow.He was hoping to encourage people to join the Barrow lollipop team
Most people who take up the job say they find it very rewarding. They feel part of the community and enjoy getting to know children and parents. In Cumbria, 35 of the 91 school crossing sites currently need a crosser.
There is no upper age limit. The county council is urging anyone over the age of 18 who might be able to spare a few hours a day in term-time to apply.
Full training is given and the uniform and stick are supplied.
