Footpaths repaired using Roman method

Two major mountain footpaths in the Lake District have been repaired using Roman techniques.

Using modern machines workers dig down and bring material up to the top to create a hard-wearing surface with vastly improved drainage.

Machine drivers have used the methods on the lakeshore at Buttermere and from Mardale Ill Bell to High Street. Hoping to combat erosion with this 2000 year old method
